Happy Birthday Sutton

I can't believe it's been a year since my little man arrived. He's just the most amazing thing in the world and we are beyond blessed to have him and Maddy in our lives. The last couple of weeks have been rough given that he's been diagnosed with pink eye, bronchitis and herpangina (which I think was a false alarm). Sutton goes to the doctor next week for his official one year wellness visit, but here's how he's developing since I last posted an update at Easter.

Sutton is pulling up on everything! He doesn't seem to have much interest in standing on his own quite yet, or to practice walking while you hold his hands, but he likes to pull up on his own and walk with things, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time until he's running around everywhere. Honestly we're not in any hurry because things are going to get ugly around here once he's get even more accessibility to sister's stuff.

OMG this boy loves to eat! I couldn't tell you what his favorite food is because he loves everything with very few exceptions (peas and water). He's been off the bottle for a couple of months now (love having my counter space back) but has been drinking formula out of a cup until yesterday. Now he's on to whole milk, but really looks forward to his apple juice. He also loves bananas and grilled cheese sandwiches, and is just getting introduced to the good stuff (aka chocolate).

We are having his birthday party tomorrow so I will try to post party pics soon and we took his one year pictures last week with C.C. so hopefully we'll have those back soon as well.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful son!

Happy Easter

Here is our weekend in pictures! We traveled to Houston and had a wonderful time enjoying the weather and the company. Our living room now looks like an Easter tornado came through but the kids are loving everything that was in their Easter baskets. Maddy got to have lots of candy and shared her Buddy Fruit with cousin Cooper. The last two evenings she gathered everyone together for a round of Hokie Pokie, which I'm pretty sure Dampa documented for future viewing. Sutton traveled really well minus a few diaper incidents and had a great time playing in the bottom of water slide and watching the big kids. He wasn't much of an Easter egg hunter, but he liked to put the plastic ones in his mouth after it was all over. Very sad to come home to rain and having to return to work. Enjoy!!

Hello Spring!

Finally we can spend time outdoors! Time to clean out the house and get ready for lots of warm weather.
Is it strange to butt heads with your 2 1/2 year old on a regular basis? Obviously a hard subject change, but it really makes me wonder how the teenage years are going to be. As I type I'm trying to get her to stop doing something she shouldn't be doing. Poor Russell already has to give us some time apart and play the mediator (how sad is that). Obviously from my previous statements she is continuing to discover her independence and figuring out what her boundaries are. Her communication skills continue to develop and she's to the point where we are going to have to start documenting her little sayings. She likes to tell us she's "too busy" when we ask her to do something. Sometimes she likes to say that she's being shy. She's indicated multiple times that she needs to go to the doctor because her elbows hurt. And the other morning she told me "ssshhh, be quiet mommy the moon is sleeping". She's hooked on Backyardigans right now so that will be her birthday party theme in a couple of months. She just loves Pablo! She already got her birthday present, which is her big girl bed. We converted her crib to a full size over the weekend. She doesn't really understand why she has a top and sheet and quilt since she's just always slept with her blanket. And she was extremely upset when she got home from getting her mattresses with Russ that I had taken her old bed apart. Over all, our little girl is just growing up so fast and continues to figure out every button of ours she can push :)
On to little man....talk about getting big! He's going on 8 months old which is crazy. He's sitting up on his own, has 5 teeth (3 on top and 2 on bottom), and wants to eat anything we are eating. I'm pretty sure he's offended when we eat in front of him and he's not offered any. He's had one ear infection since he got his tubes and then his ears started draining again today. So, we'll be making a visit to the doctor in the morning but at least he's in good spirits. He's rolling over and getting stronger, lifting up his little booty so he can start learning how to crawl. He just lovesssss his jumper. I invested in one at JBF since he loves to bounce so much, so now we get to find a new home for the exersaucer (which was more Maddy's speed). He's definitely a bouncing, baby boy!

Obviously not off to the best start...

Our new year has been filled with ear infections, surgical procedures and lots (I mean lots) of snow. Sutton has had multiple ear infections since October and they have continued on through the winter. Last week he had tubes placed in his ears which has helped so much with his congestion. He had a really bad weekend of stomach issues but seems to be recovering well now. He's starting to sit up really well now, and he got his third tooth over the weekend too. He has the absolute best laugh (along with Maddy of course)! He loves to jump up and down, eat his baby food (apples and sweet potatoes especially), and chat away.

Maddy has remained healthy so far (knock on wood) and is a typical two year old. She is energetic and independent, but is as moody as they come. She wants to do everything herself but will break down into a fit if something isn't as it should be. She loves watching Backyardigans and eating her apples. I am not sure where the healthy eating habits come from (well mostly healthy) but she refuses to eat what Russ and I eat. We have to have 3 separate meals between us, her and Sutton. She's basically potty trained now (yea!!) but we're still working on the overnight stuff. Sutton could not have a better big sister. She looks out for him all the time and makes sure that the doctor doesn't hurt him when we go for visits.

Russ recently had a procedure to ensure we don't have a 3rd child. Believe we the two we have are more than plenty. He's still recovering but it's nice to know that is taken care of from here on out. Otherwise he's still happy where he's working and I'm still happy where I'm working so things couldn't be better on that front. I have a milestone birthday coming up that I'm looking forward to. It's weird but at the same time feels completely natural.

Here's a few pics that some may have seen on FB, but wanted to post here as well!

Hello 2011....

So I'm hoping to be better about updating our family blog this year (one of many new year's resolutions). We have had a a busy, and unhealthy, last quarter so I'm desperately hoping that 2011 treats us a little better. Working backwards, New Year's Eve consisted of a night at home with Russ eating pizza, drinking wine, and watching OSU lose their basketball game. Christmas was a whirlwind this year. We drove to Duncan to hang out with Russ's family through Christmas Eve, came home for Christmas, and then went to Muskogee for an overnight trip. Maddy loved opening presents, which she got a lot of, and Sutton just kind of watched from the sidelines. Prior to that Sutton was diagnosed was RSV, and a subsequent ear infection, so December has been rough on him from diagnosis to still trying to fight it off. We've also since met with the doctor about him having a milk allergy so he's been put on a soy formula. Maddy had an ear infection and pink eye after Christmas as a side note. We spent Thanksgiving in Muskogee with my family where my Mom's family was able to meet Sutton for the first time. We spent our anniversary before Thanksgiving redoing our bedroom (paint, rearranging furniture, new TV, etc) and the kids spent their first overnighter (Sutton specifically) with my parents. Sutton kept my Mom up all night and was extremely fussy. Turns out he was coming down with his first ear infection but I'm pretty sure they won't be volunteering to watch him again for a while.

Overall Maddy is growing more independent everyday, and she's learning so much so quickly. Sutton just started rolling over and smiles all of the time. We are still addressing his skin issues but that's gotten a ton better even since Christmas. We haven't started him on cereal yet, the spoon-fed version, but we have until he's 6 months old to start that. Hard to believe he will be 5 months old next week and yet it feels like we are still trying to figure him out. Both our kids are such blessings! Below are some pics from the holidays and I promise I will try and do better this year :)
